Pet Medical Insurance

Peace of mind and medical coverage for your pet.

BloomingPaws accepts any kind of pet insurance to help pay for your loved one’s medical expenses. If you are considering enrolling for medical coverage, we highly recommend learning more about Trupanion® Pet Insurance. For the parents of newly enrolled pets, or those who might be interested in enrolling, we answer some typical questions about Trupanion® below.

What is Trupanion?
Trupanion is a pet medical insurance provider that offers and administers pet insurance in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico for cats and dogs.

Why does BloomingPaws recommend Trupanion?
We believe that the best medical coverage pet owners can get is one they have the most control over. With Trupanion, you get to set your own deductible and monthly rate at any time. And if your pet has an accident or sudden illness, Trupanion’s policy covers 90% of actual veterinary costs. There is also no payout limit. Trupanion does not impose any per-incident limit, annual limit, or lifetime limits on the amount of care your pet can receive. Trupanion strives to provide the best comprehensive medical coverage so you can focus on giving your pet the best care possible.

Why sign up for Trupanion with BloomingPaws?
If your cat or dog has been in to see one of our vets, we can give you a Trupanion certificate for a 30-day trial of FREE medical insurance. For a whole month, enjoy medical coverage for your pet with no ties or fees. This benefit requires clients to activate their free Trupanion certificate within 24 hours of their pet’s examination at BloomingPaws. You can activate the certificate on the Trupanion website or call Trupanion at (855) 828-1419 to activate it.

If I sign up with Trupanion, is my pet immediately covered?
No. Illness coverage begins 30 days after enrollment, and injury coverage begins 5 days after enrollment. Anything before these waiting periods is considered pre-existing and will not be covered.

What conditions are covered with Trupanion?
Trupanion provides coverage for most health issues. This includes but is not limited to: hereditary, congenital, and chronic conditions (i.e. cancer, arthritis), sudden injury, or illness.

What is not covered with Trupanion?
Anything pre-existing is not covered. This includes illnesses or conditions found prior to your pet’s coverage effective date. Trupanion also does not cover exam fees, taxes, and wellness & preventative care (i.e. parasite control, spay/neuter, vaccinations). Trupanion’s explanation of this is as follows: “Routine and wellness care, such as regular vet check-ups, vaccines, and preventive medications are to be expected during the life of a pet. Because these costs can be planned and budgeted, they are not included in coverage. Pet insurance is most appropriate for helping with unexpected costs, such as an injury or illness.”

How exactly does Trupanion help me pay my vet bills?
For approved accident and illness claims, Trupanion reimburses from your actual veterinary bill so you don’t have to worry about a predetermined benefit schedule. The amount will be mailed to you as a check.

What are the age eligibility requirements?
There is a basic age requirement to be eligible to enroll in Trupanion’s lifelong pet insurance coverage. You must enroll your dog or cat between 8 weeks of age and before your pet’s 14th birthday. They then become eligible for lifelong benefits.
